Is this legitimate?

The questions every first-time visitor asks before sharing personal details.

Is this a scam? #

No. FundFind is a registered surplus funds recovery company operating in counties across the United States. The model is standard: counties publish lists of unclaimed funds, eligible owners file a verified claim through us, and we collect a contingency fee on successful recoveries only. There is no upfront charge, no subscription, and no “processing fee.” If we don’t recover funds, you owe us nothing. You can read the full structure on our pricing page.

Who qualifies for surplus funds? #

Anyone named on the county’s surplus funds record qualifies — the original owner, an heir, a trustee, a business entity, or a lienholder. Most records are tied to a prior property sale, an uncollected court deposit, or a sealed estate proceeding. If your name, your relative’s name, or your business appears on the published list, you can file a claim. The fastest way to find out is to check your county — it takes about a minute.

Why not just do it myself? #

You can — the claim process is technically open to owners. In practice, every county has different filing requirements, deadlines, notarization rules, and supporting-document expectations. A small mistake (missed signature, wrong exhibit, missed deadline) results in the county denying the claim and the funds reverting to the state. We file hundreds of these and know each county’s quirks. If you prefer to handle it yourself, you keep 100%; if you’d rather hand it off, you keep 75%. Both paths are legitimate — we just remove the research and the risk of paperwork rejection.

How the contingency model works

The pricing structure, edge cases, and what happens when there’s no recovery.

What are the fees? #

One number: a contingency fee charged only on a successful recovery. Standard tier is 25% (the same rate every other recovery company charges). Smaller recoveries — under $10,000 — are billed at 30% because the fixed cost of every file is roughly the same regardless of size. Estate / probate claims are 35% because of the added court filings and heir-tracing work. Nothing is billed up front. See worked examples on the pricing page.

What if you don’t recover anything? #

You owe us nothing. FundFind absorbs every cost we incur researching the record, pulling supporting documents, preparing the petition, and following the file through the county. If the county denies the claim, no funds are released, or the funds revert to the state before we can collect — none of those outcomes cost you a cent. The risk sits on us, not on you.

How is the 25% calculated? #

The 25% is calculated on the gross amount the county disburses, before any unusual third-party deductions (court costs, prior-lien payoffs, title fees). On a $50,000 standard recovery, that means $37,500 net to you and $12,500 to FundFind. There are no add-on percentages, no success bonuses, and no hidden charges. Total transparency — the same number we quote at signing is the number you see on the disbursement.

What it actually looks like, start to finish

Timeline, who does what, and whether you need outside help.

How long does it take? #

Typical recovery timelines run 6–14 weeks from the day we file the verified claim to the day the county disburses funds, with the bulk of that time on the county side rather than ours. Some counties process in under 30 days; a few take 4–6 months. We give you a realistic county-specific estimate once we’ve confirmed a record exists — no generic ranges. Either way, no upfront payment is required at any point during the wait.

Do I need a lawyer? #

For most standard, non-probate claims, no. FundFind handles the research, paperwork, filing, and follow-up directly with the county. For probate cases, contested records, or claims where a creditor or other party has already filed a competing petition, we work with licensed attorneys in those jurisdictions — and we’re transparent about which file has crossed that line before we ask you to sign anything. You can also retain your own attorney and still use us for the paperwork.

Do you handle probate claims differently? #

Yes. Probate surplus claims go through estate court rather than individual owner filings, require heir-tracing, and need published or served notices to other potential claimants. Because of the additional legal work, probate files are billed at 35% and accepted case-by-case — not every probate record is one we take on. We’ll tell you up front whether your file is one we can move on, and we’ll explain what’s involved before you commit.

Curious how the file moves through your county? We give you a real timeline once we’ve confirmed a record exists.

Where FundFind operates today

States we serve and what to do if your county isn’t on the list yet.

What if my county isn’t covered? #

Two options. First — newer states come online regularly and we’ll add you to a waitlist so we can reach out the moment your county is supported. Second — even where we don’t yet file, the county’s surplus funds process is still open to individual owners. We’ll tell you which records we’ve seen, what paperwork the county expects, and the exact forms to file yourself so you don’t lose the funds to the state deadline. Run your county to see which path applies to you.

Which states do you serve? #

We currently file claims in counties across more than a dozen states, with new counties added as the underlying public-records data becomes reliable. The fastest way to confirm coverage for your specific situation is to enter your county on the check page — the lookup returns a real answer (covered / not yet covered / waitlist) rather than a generic state list.

Run your county through the lookup. If we cover it, we’ll confirm whether funds are waiting. If we don’t yet, we’ll tell you what to file yourself.
